Acryl and oil paint on linen, 80 x 100 cm, not for sale
Description
This painting grew from a fascination with the bond between two people — the natural closeness that is only visible between those who truly know each other.
The starting point was a series of reference photographs taken during a posing session with the two figures depicted. The painting is a faithful rendering of one of those photographs — realistic in technique and built up in multiple layers of oil paint on linen. The unusual bird's-eye perspective gives the composition a direct, intimate quality that draws the viewer into the world of the two figures.
Process
The painting was built up in several stages. The composition began with an ochre-red underpainting on linen, establishing the outlines and background. The clothing and figures were then developed layer by layer — first in neutral tones as a foundation, then with increasing colour and detail. The faces were worked out last, with particular attention to skin tones. The complete process took approximately 40 hours.
